Women and minority faculty in higher education are currently greatly outnumbered by male and white colleagues (NCES, 2017). This exploratory quantitative study utilizes 2017 data from IPEDS to understand inequities in the faculty ranking system, especially for women and minority faculty at Health Science Centers (HSCs) in Texas. A homogenous faculty body prevents diversity of thought, tolerance of new ideas, cycling like-minded discussion which can trickle down to implicit bias in decision-making like hiring and admissions practices. The purpose of this paper is to provide organizational stakeholders at health science center (HSC) institutions across the United States with a current sample of Texas-based HSC faculty by race and gender.
