Parental Engagement Through Digital Literacies: A 21st Century Workshop

Abstract

This study takes up the 21st century competencies of youth through parents, working directly with parent-child dyads from a marginalized community in a large urban center to both invite parents into their child’s schooling and to support them in digital literacy development. Results demonstrated that when given adequate support, parents were able to increase their digital literacy skills, bridging the gap between not only between home and school for children’s educational digital media use, but also with respect to their digital practices outside of the classroom.
