Designing Easily Scorable Assessments of Computational Thinking for Early Grades

Abstract

Computational Thinking is generally recognized as a subset of computer science that focuses on the cognitive processes involved in the design, development and/or evaluation of computational artifacts. While measuring all aspects of these practices may not be possible with selected response type items that are easily scorable, there are some practices that can be measured by these types of items. An important step in the generation of an assessment is to identify the type of tasks that can measure the knowledge, skills and abilities of interest. This paper discusses the design and validation of an assessment that uses selected response to measure computational thinking practices.
