Innovative Changes in Ethiopian Higher Education: Leadership Development of Women Faculty in STEM

Sun, April 19, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

This pilot study, led by collaborating faculty from three American and four Ethiopian universities, involves the delivery of enhanced professional leadership development to Ethiopian female university instructors in STEM. The project's objective is to assist in the empowerment and leadership development of young Ethiopian faculty members in teaching effectiveness, scholarly activities, and service capacities in Ethiopia. By employing culturally relevant pedagogy that respects the local culture, ways of knowing, and various scholarship focal areas, it employs valuing a variety of leadership styles. This project is innovative in that it designs learning as a continuum, focusing very directly on course content in the rapidly growing STEM fields in higher education, within the development of the nation, and possibly Sub-Saharan Africa.
