Rasch Modeling of Positive Intercultural Adaptation in Latinos at Two Universities

Abstract

This paper conducts further Rasch modeling of the Positive Inter-cultural Adaptation (PICA) subscale of the Cultural Adaptation Development Inventory (CADI) continued from AERA/NCME 2019 (Authors, 2019). This subscale measures a participant’s successful acculturation to their present culture (Authors, 2016). Data (N = 394) represent Latino students collected from two large public universities in the southeastern United States, one Hispanic serving institution (HSI) and one historically white university (HWU). A three-facet Rasch rating scale model was constructed for persons, items and university. Results indicate latent unidimensionality in the PICA and significant differences among persons. Surprisingly, no significant difference between universities was found, which leads the researchers to rethink the notion of how dominance might operate in the lives of university students.
