Research in the Service of the Educational Good: A Story of a Researcher-Practitioner Partnership in an Indigenous Pacific Community

Abstract

Researcher practitioner Partnerships (RPPs) are being funded as promising mechanisms to better connect research to important problems of practice that matter to educators and education systems. Yet, we know relatively little about how research is actually taken up as a result of the efforts of RPPs and what factors influence uptake. We present a case study of research uptake in a cross-sector RPP in an indigenous Pacific setting. RPP members included researchers, and representatives from K-12, college, and government departments. Members collaborated over 6 years and eventually used research findings to make substantial ongoing changes to policy and practice. Factors that may have contributed to these results are described.
