A Network Analysis of Organizational Stakeholder Engagement in U.S. Teacher Education Policy Making

Abstract

Although the interest of influencing policymaking in teacher education has moved beyond politicians to a wider range of actors, little is known about who the stakeholders are and how they interact with each other. This case study employs a social network analysis of the engagement and collaboration of organizational stakeholders in the development of teacher education policy in Washington State to develop an initial understanding of the formation and dynamics of policy networks in U.S. teacher education policy. This research is the first to apply SNA to investigate the influence of policy networks on the policymaking process specifically in teacher education area. It is also among one of the few attempts to identify the policy coalitions in educational policy networks.
