Sat, April 18, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

Building leadership capacity for teachers entering the profession along with conceptualizations of distributive leadership that encourage teacher leadership is significant for school improvement. Teacher education programs have the opportunity to build leadership capacity of pre-service teachers through collaborative learning experiences. In this study, researchers used repeated surveys and social network analysis to examine pre-service teachers collaborative learning experiences while co-designing an interdisciplinary unit plan. Findings suggest pre-service teachers are developing teacher leadership skills while engaging in collaborative learning. Findings from this two-year design-based study are shaping how we are preparing pre-service teachers for future leadership roles and the instructional designs to foster this.
