Networked Systems: Factors Explaining the Functioning of Collaboration of School and Community Agents for Improving Education

Abstract

This paper reports on final findings from phase 1 and 2 of a national program of 22 regional networks. The analysis in this paper draws on quantitative as well as qualitative data. The analysis of the qualitative data show that exchanges of knowledge between different agents and institutions have intensified over time through certain innovative arrangements. The various agents and institutions of formal and non-formal education are more aware of each other and better informed about the functions and services of others. A longitudinal path model with quantitative data shows that only trust had a significant impact on cooperation. The model matches the literature showing the central function of trust for the cooperation in networked systems.
