Community-Engaged Pedagogy and Service-Learning: Difficult Dialogue From the Perspective of Women of Color Students

Abstract

The broader goal of this research is to explore the relationship between higher education and community-based work. Additionally, the objective is to understand the experiences of young women of color in service-learning courses, specifically with regard to how they experience and conceptually understand service, engagement, and difficult dialogues. As narrative research, the study aims to collect stories from participants, through group and individual interviews, about their lived experiences in service-learning college courses (Creswell, 2013; Riessman, 2008; Ollerenshaw & Creswell, 2002; Clandinin & Connelly, 2000).
