Abstract

Relationship between superintendents, community and school boards is one the most significant factors to successful school district tenure. As some research continues to demonstrate the importance of the relationship with respect to educational stakeholder involvement in setting educational policies affecting student success, in this paper we shed more light on superintendent perceptions and experiences with local school boards and community members. Specifically, in this longitudinal survey-based research, we explore superintendent perspectives on emergence of special interest groups, factors affecting political and policy action in the district, and extent of engagement with school board and community members.
