Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Higher Educational Leadership: 25 Years of Theoretical Debate

Sat, April 18, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

Educational leadership, management, organization, and policy (ELMOP) in higher education have been largely influenced by a plurality of theories, concepts, and perspectives such as Poststructuralism, Postmodernism, and critically-oriented theories. In their application, these theories and concepts have their pros and cons when addressing matters of diversity, equity, and inclusion. This paper explores changes in conceptual and empirical questions asked and their impact on the advancement of ELMOP scholarship. It shows that in spite of different historical, political, social, and economic contexts similar questions have emerged throughout the past twenty-five years. It highlights open concerns, discussions and recommendations to address social issues affecting education including racism, discrimination, and their influence in existing power imbalances.
