Sat, April 18, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

This paper provides a synthesis on the research that explores the intersection between teacher identity and religious belief. This paper accomplishes five objectives: it establishes the context for the study of religion and teacher identity; it reviews research studies on pre-service teacher preparation and in-service teacher practice; it analyzes the findings across these research studies; it synthesizes the results, considering what impact this research has had on teacher preparation and teacher professional development programs; and, it suggests implications to ensure the research is used to impact the craft of teaching and the learning of students. This synthesis identifies implications that can inform teacher preparation, teacher professional development, and future areas of research.
