Reorganizing for "Material Hope" in an After-School Science Program

Abstract

This paper examines how educators use their knowledge of the local community and the political circumstances facing young people to support learning in an after school science program? Drawing on notions of material disinheritance and material hope, the author found that educators saw discarded materials anew in order to support science inquiry in a working class community of color.
