A Sociocultural Model for Social-Emotional Learning of Asian Immigrant Students

Abstract

This study describes the social-emotional needs of Asian immigrant adolescents within an ecological framework and suggests model explains the role of sociocultural factors on the development and maintenance of protective and risk factors among Asian immigrant students. Several electronic databases were searched for original research articles that examined social-emotional needs of Asian immigrant adolescents in acculturation progress. Eleven studies were included for the systemic review. The current study informs educators as to what are the unique and specific social-emotional needs of Asian immigrant students, needs that would be beneficial to address in future interventions.
