Abstract

We share our experiences as Latinx women in leadership positions in education and the reciprocal nature of the mentoring relationship amongst ourselves. We are sisters in the academy and real life, daughters of immigrants from Mexico and first-generation college students. We discuss in concrete terms the type of critical support and scaffolding that we extended to each other in our different career trajectories including the role of mentors, ports of entry, acquisition of a skill set and maneuvering the political landscape. There are a myriad of barriers that exist for women of color who seek out leadership positions in education, especially because of the scarcity of women in such positions.
