This study identifies individual and contextual factors that impact adolescent endorsements of gender stereotypes about science ability. Middle school students in a southeastern state participated in cross-sectional surveys that included a three-item science stereotype endorsement scale, parent occupations, self-identified gender, and year in school. Current science grades were provided by the districts. Data analysis using descriptive statistics and a MIMIC model highlighted the importance of adolescent gender in the endorsement of science stereotypes, with science grades showing a small effect as well. Adolescents who identified as male endorsed gender stereotypes to a higher degree than adolescents who identified as female. The study stresses addressing gender stereotypes not only with young women, but also with young men.
