Geometry Manipulatives Can Increase Achievement for All Types of Learners

Sun, April 19, 8:15 to 9:45am, Virtual Room

Abstract

Learning geometry with manipulatives can increase understanding for several types of learners. Four researchers using individual meta-analyses collaborated to present the benefits of using various geometry manipulatives for students ranging from elementary to post-secondary education. Five research questions and weighted effect sizes were calculated. The mean effect size for all five research questions was 0.3842. The synthesized research found the use of geometry manipulatives improved students' spatial visualization skills and increased mathematics achievement.
