Despite the importance of teachers of color to improving outcomes for students of color, and the challenges in retaining these teachers, there is little research on whether and how professional development designed for novice teachers of color — particularly male teachers of color--influences their practice and their students’ learning. This paper will outline key considerations at the district level that have factored into NYC Men Teach’s implementation as a model for considering similar initiatives that seek to impact teacher recruitment and support.
