"The Class Was Geared Way Too Much Towards White People": The Experiences of Teacher Candidates of Color at a Predominantly White University

Sat, April 18, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

This study thus draws on scholarship in Critical Race Theory to investigate the perspectives and experiences of teacher candidates of Color enrolled in three different teacher credential programs at a predominantly white public institution of higher education. The study focuses on how teacher candidates of Color encounter and respond to racialized experiences in their teacher preparation programs. Findings underscore the need to transform teacher education programs to attend to the lived experiences, concerns and expectations of future teachers of Color.
