Moments of Validation: Qualitative Perspectives From Students and Staff Involved in Men of Color Retention Programs

Sat, April 18, 8:15 to 9:45am, Virtual Room

Abstract

Men of color are not graduating from college at similar rates at their same-aged peers. Universities have responded by developing men of color retention programs. Therefore, this qualitative study focuses on the experiences of 55 Black, Latino, and Asian Pacific Islander students involved in three men of color programs and the 10 staff members who administer the programs using validation theory. The aim is to understand student and staff members’ experiences in men of color programs and provide practical recommendations for student affairs professionals.
