This paper analyzes coordinated equity-focused advocacy between a Latina mother and Latina school board member, brought together by a serious accusation of child abuse at an elementary school in a large urban district. Using Latino Critical Race Theory and Critical Race testimonio methodology, this paper explores how Latinx school board members may work in direct collaboration and relationship with local communities of color (especially Latinx communities) to promote educational equity. Findings reveal the inner-workings of a Latina board member and Latina parent leader being juntas en la lucha (together in the struggle), providing critical insights for researchers, educators, parent leaders, and board members to coordinate their efforts to advance equity for our Latinx communities and broader communities of color.
