Paying Attention: Training Orienting Reflex With Mindful Biofeedback

Mon, April 20, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

Attention and focus is a crucial element and pre-requisite for learning. The ability to shift into an attention state is observed in the Alert-orienting reflex. This natural universal reflex can be effective in teaching students how to shift into attention and focus state. The aim of the preliminary study was to identify the Alert-Orienting reflex with psychophysiological measures (Electrodermal Activity, EDA) and to examine the impact of brief Mindful Biofeedback on the shift into attention. Results from this study indicated that there were significant interaction effects of EDA and Attention on during a task requiring attention. The brief Mindful Biofeedback training was significantly different from the Control group in Attention Task Score.
