Practice-Informed Research and Research-Informed Practice: Seeking Educational Equity Through a Statewide College Attainment Program

Abstract

This study assesses the impact of a collaboration between researchers and organizational stakeholders working together to evaluate and enhance a college attainment program at seven colleges and universities. A case study approach identified characteristics of the collaboration which were compared to key themes found in the literature including leadership, understanding change, relationships, effective use of data, and organizational coherence (Asera, Gabriner, & Hemphill, 2017). Program evaluation findings using mixed measures reveal academic and social gains for student participants connected to specific program strategies. Qualitative indicators were compared with the literature on key characteristics of college success programs (Jones, 2008; Thomas 2012). Results will inform institutions and organizations as they develop, implement, and collaboratively evaluate college attainment programs supporting all students.
