This study examines the college advising services provided at ten school districts in a large metropolitan area as well as the college application, enrollment and financial aid application rates per district. Few studies have considered the differential role district-wide college advising counselors may play relative to other types of advising services in contributing to district-wide college outcomes. Our findings indicate a strong need to expand college advising efforts across districts, especially for the most economically disadvantaged districts. This regional comparative study aims to inform policy related to college advising, especially for school districts serving a large proportion of low-income, first-generation, racial and ethnic minority students.
