Abstract

This paper is a systematic review of literature of STEM mentoring models and the most salient components that work to improving the pipeline of underrepresented minorities (URM) in STEM fields. Engaging marginalized communities in STEM contributes to the STEM talent pool that is available to address important and pressing national challenges.The paper revealed limitations in the scale and scope of STEM mentoring models, practitioner engagement strategies, and acknowledgement of the progression of reform strategies. Only when we understand the contours of extant research can we partners with STEM practitioners to better operationalize strategies and expand the research opportunities.
