1:1 Technology Program Sustainability: Characteristics, Supports, and Challenges

Sat, April 18, 4:05 to 6:05pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

When schools or districts implement a 1:1 technology program, the transformation process is a gradual one. Early phases promote excitement and some initial changes to teaching and learning. Later, some schools experience a deeper transformation of learning opportunities and measurable shifts in student achievement. But after a few years, as the devices start to break down, educator turnover occurs, and professional development wanes, programs face challenges to sustainability—even when schools and districts would like them to continue. This paper focuses on the issue of sustaining 1:1 technology programs in K-12 settings.
