A generation of teachers, specifically teachers of color, have grown-up with Hip-Hop. However, there is still much to be learned about the ways their participation in Hip-Hop culture informs their pedagogical practices, particularly in social studies spaces. This paper utilizes the lenses of culturally sustaining pedagogy (CSP) and intersectionality to examine how Hip-Hop culture informs the classroom and instruction practices teachers of color in social studies who engage students in discussion around difficult histories.
