This study examines the results of the first phase of a multi-year program to integrate the use of video to support induction coaches in a suburban school district. Five coaches participated in a video club in which they analyzed videos of their coaching conversations. A typological analysis of interview and video club meeting transcripts revealed benefits of participation of the video club itself on the coaches’ sense of professional community as well as changes in the quality of coaching conversations. Obstacles to using video were largely logistical and issues related to the time needed to establish trusting relationships with mentees. Exploration of the video club model for teacher leader development will inform theories of teacher learning and professional development design.
