Organizational Identity Learning at a Two-Year Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander–Serving Institution

Tue, April 21, 8:15 to 9:45am, Virtual Room

Abstract

This case study examines changes in organizational identity and practices at one two-year AANAPISI prior to and after receiving the federal designation and funding. Interviews with institutional agents revealed that the AANAPISI designation and grant a) created various opportunities for organizational stakeholders at WCCC to learn about the unique needs of minority students, particularly the needs of low-income Southeast Asians students, b) developed campus-wide conversations on institutionalizing best practices in serving underrepresented minority students, and c) expanded opportunities to seek other federal grants (i.e. HSI). The findings have major implications on discussing how MSIs are essential in our current higher education landscape in serving the unique needs and challenges of underrepresented minority students.
