Ethnic Studies, Neoliberalism, and the California State University System

Sun, April 19, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

This research seeks to analyze the impact of neoliberalism on Ethnic Studies departments within the CSU system. Through the use of case study, a greater understanding of the pressures that Ethnic Studies faculty and students face in their work is explored. Given the benefits of Ethnic Studies courses for students of color, and their historic role in the promotion of social/racial justice, these fields of study serve an important role in our public institutions of higher education. Advocacy for Ethnic Studies within the CSU system is explored herein.
