Montessori Research and Methodological Confluence: Or, How Montessori Researchers Measure Is an Opportunity and a Response to History

Mon, April 20, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

The recent explosion of Montessori education is a notable and a potentially hopeful change in the global schooling landscape. As educational researchers interested in the effectiveness, relevance, and applicability of Montessori we must be aware of the history of Montessori education, the current backdrop upon which it is being enacted, and the unique conditions in which Montessori education ideally requires. The Montessori research community would be wise to consider ways our current research paradigms might support a broader, more inclusive understanding of research and data driven instruction. Our hope is that this paper provides a platform to develop thoughtful and thorough ways to capture the breadth and depth of learning in Montessori environments while also satisfying policymakers, funders, and governmental agencies.
