Pre-K–3 Enrollment Patterns for Public Montessori Applicants

Abstract

The purpose of the IES Montessori Preschool Study is to conduct a large-scale, multisite RCT in order to fully understand the impacts of the Montessori preschool model on young children’s learning outcomes in public schools. As the study is just getting underway, as a secondary analysis we will investigate what types of programs children who apply to public Montessori primary programs through random lotteries, but not admitted, attend. There is a large gap in knowledge on programs that families interested in Montessori but are not accepted end up enrolling in, and this analysis will help fill that gap.
