Collaboration and Race Research in Neoliberal Times

Sat, April 18, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

In this paper, I consider how education researchers can engage in race research in this current era of school choice. I examine the particular challenges critical scholars who work closely with grassroots organizations face in this current moment of education reform. Specifically, in this paper, I both critique neo-liberal and progressive education choice advocates who use discourses about educational and racial equity and are supported by a conservative education research apparatus that reject critical perspectives, as “biased,” and offer suggestions for scholars to continue to work with grassroots organizations on education equity projects.
