Foregrounding Duncan-Andrade’s (2009) notion of critical hope, such as material hope, Socratic hope, and audacious hope, the author in this chapter declares the necessity of critical hope when seeking to recruit the next generation of critical educators of color in and through the teacher pipeline. Through a teacher action research project, the author details her journey facilitating a youth participatory action research project with youth of color in a teacher pipeline program called Future Educators Program (FEP). Students in FEP conduct a youth research project studying the role of race and class in shaping the opportunity gap and examining the practices of critical educators in their schools who work effectively with Black and Latinx students. Findings from this teacher action research project offer insights into how educators and community leaders can recruit and nurture the next generation of future teachers of color.
