Mentorship. Transformative Vision and Practices: Preparing Culturally Efficacious Induction Mentors

Sun, April 19, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

In this chapter, our intent is to offer the Culturally Efficacious Evolution Model (CEEM) for preparing Culturally Efficacious Induction Mentors (CEIMs). We contend that CEIMs should demonstrate the expertise for mentoring teachers to enact critical and cultural transformative pedagogy as agents of change. We will present the theoretical work and vision that frames the model. Next we provide CEIMs’ testimonios as evidence of the veracity of our model for supporting mentors of color to become culturally efficacious with the capacity and confidence to guide diverse novices in acquiring critical and culturally transformative practices. Multiple cases allowed us to examine the phenomena and explore converging lines of inquiry (Yin, 2009). The cross-case analysis is followed by the conclusions and recommendations.
