Building Solidarity Among Black Women and Black Men Scholars in Researching Black Women in STEM

Abstract
This interactive symposium creates opportunities for open and honest dialogue about issues and tensions that arise in the academy as a result of disunity among Black men and women scholars. The session illuminates Black men who research and mentor Black women in STEM as a starting point into this broader conversation. The essential question this symposium aims to answer is how to build solidarity within the Black scholars’ community, specifically between Black men and women who do STEM equity research. The session organizers propose to partner with local San Francisco organizations that center Black STEM professionals to think together about these issues from a practical perspective.
