Session Type: Symposium
The purpose of this symposium is to extend scholarship on validation, specifically using mathematics education research as a pivot point for conversations about emergent frameworks to apply during instrument creation and development. A noticeable challenge was unpacking validity and validity argument frameworks. Authors from this symposium collaborated at a National Science Foundation-funded conference focusing on validity and validation in mathematics education, which generated two edited books, including chapters focusing on emergent validity frameworks. This symposium offers an opportunity to expand upon those emergent frameworks that use the Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing ([Standards] AERA, APA, & NCME, 2014) and advocate for frameworks that can have broad impact across assessment of content areas and retain rigorous intellectual merit.
