Crafting Science Educations for Justice: Entangled Global Tales of Teaching and Activism

Abstract

This symposium presents entangled work of engaging in science education both in formal and informal/public settings as social justice practices. The panel shares autobiographically reflective work from Australia, Brazil, Canada, England, and the United States. Each paper deals with local politics while examining the role played by our international collective. The authors here have worked together for five years to increase the spaces and discourses available for teachers to articulate issues of justice and science within the spaces we work. The papers also explore specific activist projects around environmentalism, capitalism, labor conditions, and consumerism specifically in these different national nexuses. Finally, the papers explore the limits, the censoring powers, and institutional (at different levels) reactions to this work.
