Session Type: Symposium
Given the shifting nature of racism and white supremacy and a pronounced resurgent colorblind policy moment, this symposium explores expanding the possibilities for applying Critical Race Praxis (CRP) in education (Yamamoto, 1997; Zamani-Gallaher, O’Neil Green, Brown, & Author, 2009; Author, 2006). Presenters build on Yamamoto and others’ work as a political tool, exploring nuances of CRP to expand thinking towards new possibilities that address current political and policy making challenges in education. At the core of this symposium is extending CRP with the purpose of advancing critical and social justice–oriented education policies and practices across multiple spheres of influence (e.g. community organizers, students and teachers, educational researchers, and political lawyers).
