Dance, Body, and Presences

Abstract

The proposed symposium presents the use of dance, improvisation, and somatics as ways of inquiry. By presenting the perspective of us three - each a scholar, researcher, and performer - we aim to generate a dialogue on the importance of the body. As performance scholars, we offer counter narratives that reclaim the body as a way of knowing, being, and learning. In this symposium, we question the presence and absence of the body in scholarship and learning. We offer unique, embodied perspective on the relationship between dance, the body, and the language that affects our writing, teaching, performing, and methodologies.
