Transfer for Learning Outside the Classroom: Informal Contexts to Examine STEM Learning Skills and Strategies

Fri, April 17, 4:05 to 5:35pm, Virtual Room

Session Type: Structured Poster Session

Abstract

In this session, twelve education researchers present their work exploring and assessing STEM learning skills and strategies in informal learning environments. While content areas in this session range from engineering and design to expert problem-solving to science communication, the larger group is linked together through the use of unique, innovative assessment tools and techniques. Projects highlight assessment in a variety of venues (e.g., museums and workshops), across the lifespan (e.g., early childhood to adults), and using a diverse array of tools (e.g., badge systems and immersive online environments). In addition, the session provides an opportunity not only to facilitate conversations and collaborations between researchers, but to provide feedback and guidance to early-career scholars.
