Session Type: Symposium
This symposium brings together three papers that span the educational landscape and explore the discourse, policy, and impact of the “achievement gap” in research, policy, and practice historically and in the present. The goal of this session is to highlight research that that seeks to disrupt reigning constructions of “achievement gap” rhetoric grounded in racialized notions of success and failure by calling attention to the historical development of the concept, the racist stereotypes that propel policy, and the lived experiences of students of color.
