Understanding the Ecologies of Student-Centered Learning in Secondary Education Reforms: Comparing the Perceptions of Secondary Teachers and Students in 10 Countries

Abstract
This is comparative study to examine how secondary teachers have implemented educational reforms that focus on student-centered learning in ten countries in Asia, North America, Africa and the Caribbean. Major sources of data used were surveys for sample teachers and students. Surveys asked questions on how often a teaching or evaluation strategy was used. The study concluded that although some teachers struggled to make necessary changes to adopt most of the reforms. Teacher-directed lessons still dominated. However, there were sufficient activity-based learnings and integration of technology. Tests, classwork, homework, and examinations were used for student evaluations. However, classroom management needs increased attention. More resources and professional development are needed. Policymakers and educators in all jurisdictions can learn from reform efforts.
