Bridging the Gap: Opportunities, Challenges, and Lessons From Five Knowledge Translation Initiatives

Abstract

The gap between research and practice remains a persistent challenge in education. Knowledge translation increasingly is positioned as an approach for addressing this divide. While there are increasing numbers of academics, teachers and brokerage organizations engaged in knowledge translation work, there currently is relatively little empirical research on different models of knowledge translation in education, or their efficacy and impact. This symposium brings together five researchers across three continents involved in knowledge translation to discuss theoretical models of knowledge translation in education and to present initial empirical evidence on their operation in and impact on practice. The symposium hopes to stimulate debate about the primary challenges and opportunities present in this work.
