Session Type: Symposium
Corresponding to the annual call for collaborative educational conversation, this symposium provides authentic and first-hand experiences on how Chinese education researchers, policy makers, and practitioners connect and collaborate to design, implement, and refine new civic curriculum. Paper 1 reflects on the process of compiling national civic textbook and how to incorporate children’s experience. Paper 2 examines the possibilities and challenges researchers and teachers face when selecting and developing controversial issues in civic curriculum. Paper 3 introduces how researchers and teachers co-develop teaching materials containing complex problems and relationships in civic classes. Paper 4 investigates the feasibility of implementing a discourse-based curriculum in civic classes. Perspectives from China might contribute to the international conversation on educational collaboration involving different stakeholders.
