Session Summary

Leading, Learning, and Caring: Well-Being and the School Leader

Tue, April 21, 8:15 to 9:45am, Virtual Room

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

This symposium highlights and addresses the issues of principal wellbeing and self-care by focusing on schools leaders who are at various stages of their career—students in principal preparation programs, early career principals, and school administrators working in various school contexts. Specifically, the papers investigate levels of stress and burnout encountered by school administrators and raise awareness of the various complexities principals face in relation to wellbeing and self-care. The session proposes helpful suggestions addressing self-care and wellbeing through mentoring and integration of habits of self-care and offering a complementary perspective with an appreciative, positive approach to researching wellbeing in schools, focusing explicitly on what works well to further grow conditions for self and others to flourish.
