Power in Graduate Education: Actors, Relations, and Accountability in the System

Abstract
In this 90-minute symposium, four original research papers and a discussant will examine forms, sources, and relation of power that affect the present state of U.S. graduate education and condition possibilities for its future. Papers consider forms of power and influence wielded by graduate schools, their deans, as well as faculty, students, and postdoctoral trainees. The discussant comments will situate the influences from these various actors within the changing landscape of students, funding, labor market, and public policy.
