Session Summary

School Counseling to Promote the Success of Black Youth: Critical Reflections on Theory and Praxis

Mon, April 20, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Virtual Room

Session Type: Roundtable Session

Abstract

As school counseling continues to evolve to become more comprehensive, systemic, and equity focused (ASCA, 2012; 2019) there is a great need to understand the ways in which school counseling praxis impacts the lives of students. In particular, how does school counseling praxis hinder and help some of the most vulnerable youth in K-12 schools. This symposium takes a critical look at school counseling theory and praxis to understand the ways in which school counseling may fall short and/or help support the holistic development of Black youth.
