Anzaldúan-Informed Pedagogies in Higher Education: Corridos, Research Methods, Ethnic Studies, and Beyoncé

Abstract

The goal of this panel is to illustrate the myriad ways that Anzaldúa’s scholarship informs pedagogical practices in the classroom that can serve as transformational for students and Women of Color instructors (faculty). Together these papers aim to show how an Anzaldúan framework can help us teach Chicana/Latina Feminist Theory, Ethnic Studies, and Research Methods courses and open up spaces of joy, tension, transformation, theorization, and healing in the classroom. Specifically, in sharing our testimonios in teaching as well as teaching strategies, we aim to discuss the triumphs and challenges of teaching within institutions that have largely ignored the epistemologies of Indigenous peoples and People of Color.
